In the past couple of months, many social media platforms have claimed that some major news websites have been publishing articles that have been generated by AI and not labeling them as AI written. These posts can often be labeled by lesser known news outlets and are norming generic like "breaking news" stories that don't really have an author byline or odd phrasing. Some of this talk has been boosted up by users worried about how AI might reduce journalism standards.

While some of this may be true, there are many littler sites and some news websites are using AI generated content. For example, a study from Cornell shows that synthetic news articles increased drastically on smaller sites between 2022-2023 but many mainstream news sources still had a lower usage of AI content. So that means this claim is misleading and conflates the real question on whether AI written content with a broad assertion that major outlets are doing it in secrecy and at a scale when evidence is lacking.

From what I know, political posts made by politicians are usually not fact-checked ever. According to PolitiFact, Meta who owns Instagram, has recently confirmed that political content and speech from politicians are often exempt from the third-party-checking, which is the system used for Instagram’s fact-checking. The reason behind this is the policy that is to avoid interfering with political expression, which also means a lot of political can still be spread without being labeled or reviewed for accuracy.

Recently, Meta even started moving away from its full fact-checking program. In early 2025, the company announced their plans to end the third-party fact-checking partnerships in the U.S. with plans to switch to a “community notes” model, where users can help ass context to posts instead of relying on automatic checks. Overall Instagram has focused more on limiting how often political posts appear in recommendations rather than reviewing the truthfulness in every post. The claim makes it sound like Instagram checks all political posts automatically, when fact-checking only ever happens sometimes and political posts are the ones not reviewed at all.

The American rapper and record producer, Sean "Diddy" Combs has been sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in federal prison after being convicted of charges related to prostitution from his previous relationships. The accusations and allegations of Diddy all started in late 2023, when his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, filed a civil lawsuit against him, alleging a coercive sexual relationship, as well as claims of domestic violence. In the lawsuit, Ventura claimed there were "freak-offs", which led Combs down a very dark path of consistent allegations, and his own industry initial start of turning on him. After videos of abuse leaked and several allegations have come out in a 6 month period, Combs was arrested in a Manhattan hotel in September of 2024. After his property's in Los Angeles in Miami were raided, hundreds of new allegations arising in the press, Diddy was put on trial in May of 2025. After two months of the lawsuit, a unanimous decision was made by the jury that Combs was not guilty of the charges like racketeering and sex trafficking, but was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution of Ventura. Both of those charges hold a 10-year maximum, but Combs received 4 years and 2 months. Diddy is serving time in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, expected to finish in 2029.

Oregon officials found over 300 voters, registered this month, that didn't have proof of citizenship. Due to a mix of laws being enacted that allowed "residents who aren't citizens to obtain driver's license", and "Motor Voter" law, which took effect in 2016, automatically registers most people to vote when they seek a new license or ID". This caused there to be a total of 1,561. "Thanks to the swift action of elections officials, I have full confidence that these new errors will not impact the 2024 election," Griffin-Valade said. However, other states have been finding lots of inelegiable names registered to vote. This is alarming especially in lue of the 2024 election in november.

"Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced in August that officials have purged 1.1 million ineligible names from the voter rolls since the 2020 presidential election.

Ohio's secretary of state referred 138 noncitizens believed to have voted in previous elections to the state's attorney general for possible criminal charges."

These issues have been occurring in both automatic and non automatic voter registration states. Hopefully they will get fixed before the 2024 election.
