Although Trump has signed to re-open the government, financial problems still arise from the shutdown. Congress has only passed 3 bills so far regarding federal spending, but still have many more to consider. Everything else is only temporarily funded until the 30th of January, and all include issues that are much more complicated, such as military spending, labor, education, and more. If there is no deal before January, another government shutdown may be necessary.

This answer is partially incorrect. Obviously by posting this after January 2026 I have a different set of facts. The update is that there was in fact a partial shutdown but it didn't start until February 2026. This current shutdown is because of disagreements over the use and funding of the DHS. Because of this the shutdown is only affecting the DHS division of the government but it still counts as the longest shutdown in country history. While the January shutdown prediction was ultimately false, it was a good guess and provided accurate reasoning for the future shutdown regardless of the time it happened.
