I noticed that the image attached to the Bluesky post appears to be a screenshot from X/Twitter, so I started by attempting to track down the original post. I searched WXYZ 7 News, the account in the screenshot, on Google and was met with a legitimate news channel of the same name based in Detroit, Michigan. I must assume this is an old photo because the channel goes by @wxyzdetroit today. I cannot find a perfect match for @wxyz7news. 

On the WXYZ channel website, no results were consistent with any details from this headline. Additionally, neither a Google Image search or Microsoft Edge Image search produced results connected to any type of article or source beside this original post and similar ones across platforms.

The most detailed information I was able to locate was a related Facebook post by The Dude Humor Report, a fake news platform. This is directly copied from their bio: "Dude Humor — where breaking news meets pure entertainment. for wild headlines and viral stories. Disclaimer: This page features satire and parody stories that are exaggerated, developing fictional — created for entertainment purposes only" The page is owned by TBC Viral Media, a company that produces exaggerated content (and is really concerned with preventing copyright and intellectual property conflicts apparently).

Dude Humor Report seems to have taken the original post and fabricated a story to go along with it, as with most of their other content, for entertainment purposes and is not based in fact and should not be considered a reputable source of information. All things considered, this appears to be a fabricated story, or is extremely unreliably reported. 

(Additionally, the claim in the title of this post is too vague to be determinate that Florida "world leader" of crazy situations. I can only assume this was the opinion trying to be communicated, and that can't be denied, it is not reasonable to say that Florida is particularly crazier than any other place in the world. Florida has the Public Records Law, (Chapter 119 - 2025 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate) which grant anyone permission to request access to Florida Public Records without verifying their identity or listing a reason. Many people utilize this tool to find outlandish or interesting arrest records that they can utilize for engagement. While every state has some version of a public records search, Florida's appears to be one of the easiest and most accessible, which MAY have an effect on the large amount of coverage of the "Florida Man" headlines compared to other states or countries.)

I looked into the claim by first checking the source shown in the post. The screenshot looks like it came from a WXYZ news account, but the real station is WXYZ-TV Detroit, which currently uses the handle @wxyzdetroit. I couldn’t find any real or verified account using @wxyz7news, which makes it seem like the image is either outdated, edited, or taken out of context.
After that, I searched for the story on Google and used reverse image tools to see if it showed up anywhere trustworthy. I didn’t find any credible news outlets reporting it. Most of what came up were reposts on social media or meme pages, not actual news sources.
I then traced it to The Dude Humor Report on Facebook, which clearly says it posts satire and fictional stories for entertainment. Since they label their content as made-up, it’s not a reliable news source.
Overall, there is no solid evidence that the claim is real. It looks like a satirical post that got shared or mistaken as actual news.

Florida has a set of public records laws, often called the Florida Sunshine Law, which make most government records accessible to the public by default. This includes things like arrest records and booking photos. Because this information is relatively easy for journalists and the public to access compared to many other states, unusual or bizarre arrests in Florida tend to get reported and shared more widely. This is why there are so many “Florida man does X crazy thing” articles and memes. It also means there are a large number of real Florida mugshots available online. As a result, people sometimes take these legitimate images and pair them with exaggerated or completely fabricated captions to create viral posts.

I attempted to reverse image search the woman to hopefully find her actual court case, but it only led to reposts of the meme. When searching for an article about this incident, I was unable to find any reporting that shared similar details to the caption. The news station featured in the image, WXYZ 7 News, is a real news station from Detroit, Michigan (Notably not Florida), but I was unable to find an article or tweet about this incident. In fact WXYZ 7 News's twitter handle is @wxyzdetroit, whereas in the image it’s @wxyz7news. All of this leads me to believe that even the original tweet is not real and is just an edited image. The eyepatch is real, but almost definitely a medical device and not a pirate costume.

There is no evidence that supports the original claim from the meme image that I can find.

I can’t find the original booking or court case that the mugshot came from, meaning there is no way for me to definitely prove that the caption was not the crime she committed.

I have sent a private message to WXYZ 7 News asking about the image, if they respond I will add a comment with their input.
